Everybody wants to ride shotgun. Apparently there are rules for this, found here. Some of it is just plain silly, but the whole idea is infused with a sort of uniquely American silliness, so I suppose it’s just been taken to its logical conclusion. Thanks to a reader for this link.
Walter.
Working in a small satellite office, we carpooled a lot to go to events in the main office. There was always a shotgun call for dibs on the passenger seat. Imagine my surprise when reading this link to find that what I thought was an integral part of the shotgun process is actually ‘Amendment XXXI: Ten-Foot Rule’ – the race to the car that overrides the actual call! :-)
