Duc d'Enghien Images

In 2006 at Los Angeles Worldcon I did a panel with Ian W. Straughan, an exceptionally talented artist, who became a reader (and apparently a fan) of my Dark Wing universe books. Later that year I received several images in my mailbox which (Ian claims) he “knocked together” based on descriptions in the book. This is the carrier Duc d’Enghien.

This may be no big deal for Ian, but I’m amazingly impressed. The full images are significantly larger. The sensor array is shown spanning the areas between the fighter launch bays (the long tube structures that sprout from the main hull). The main bridge is aft of the foremost two launch bays.

Zor Sketches

Everyone has something they're good at. While I've found some success as a writer, I can't draw anything more complicated than Spongebob (and would probably have trouble with that.) Therefore, when people ask me what a zor looks like, I direct them to the description in The Dark Wing and leave it to their imaginations.

When I was at JerseyDevilCon in April 2003, I met a talented artist named Joe DeVito.

And Next . . .?

Since the fourth book in the series was published, I've been receiving e-mails from readers asking about the future of the series. The answer to this is twofold, and internally contradictory. Yes, there's more to the universe; and no, my publisher – Tor – is not presently interested in seeing it appear. This is a business decision: I hold the highest regard for Tor Books and for the people who helped foster my career, and I don't think they have any regrets at publishing the four books that appear above.

Translations

My book series has been translated into German and is available from Random House Germany.

The books were published in 2006 and 2007 in Taschenbuch-Format – paperback. The translations are excellent.
